Trap Console 2.1 is available. New features and fixes included:

Improved environment setup for "Execute external application" Action

• Preferences-Variables page has been redesigned and configuration settings modified to separate system settings and user overrides. System environment variable values can be reloaded without the need to define previous user modifications again.

Rule list evaluation order defined

• Rules are evaluated in a defined order. Rule can be defined as exclusive, stopping further rule evaluation and processing.

SNMP command line utility

• Add-on SNMP management application. (Usage) This SNMP command generator utility for agent management supports all protocol operations, can log and decode received messages and work with prepared parameter files.

SNMP Set request action

• New trap action 'Perform SNMP Set request' for generating SNMP Set-Request PDU message, eventually parametrized using information from received trap. MIB object browsing available.

Fixes and minor modifications requested by customers

• Workaround for a problem with fifo handle left open after application exited normally. (some linux script interpreters)
• Fixed web page form for 'Write trap to the database' action.
• Various web interface fixes and improvements.
• Trap parser accepts more of the recoverable BER encoding errors, ignores failures in varbind parsing unless they affect subsequent varbinds.
• Removed UDP receiver buffer size setting for incoming packets, handles packets up to the UDP defined size limit.

Trap Console 2.0 final release is available. New features and fixes included:

User interface

• New web interface design and organization.
• Trap receivers controlled via web interface. Each receiver can be started, stopped and bound to another port via its control page, without editing configuration manually and restart of entire application.
• Packet logging controlled via web page as well. Decoded packet data dump accessible from web interface.

Support for BSD syslog protocol

• New trap action 'Send syslog message' for logging trap information to a syslog server.
• Embedded syslog receiver that creates a trap/notification containing syslog message attributes in its PDU. These traps are processed the same way as regular, SNMP originated traps.

Improved variable input and formatting

• DISPLAY-HINT clause used for formatting variable values and parsing input before building ASN.1 objects.
• Parsing and formatting also recognizes and displays integer syntax enumeration labels.

MIB resolution

• Added standard IF-MIB to provide missing SNMPv2 definitions.
• Possibility to send an 'unresolved' trap without corresponding MIB present and with OID and variables defined in the 'Send another SNMP trap' action.

Other

• Receiver Statistics in XML format.

Trap Console 1.5a has been released, solving minor discrepancies and bugs:

Trap processing

• UDP inform-request response messages were sent from dynamically bound datagram socket, port number assigned by system. Now the receiver socket is used, with its well known port number.
• Trap parser less strict, accepts trap messages with some recoverable BER encoding errors.

Action 'Write trap to the database'

• The action instance uses database connection pool to manage multiple and simultaneous statement execution.
• Fixed database authorization problems occurring after update of action parameters.
• Fixed incorrect construction of SQL statement that could cause its rejection by the JDBC driver. The resulting SQL statement is also included in the action log record, with macros expanded, exactly the same string as the JDBC driver receives.

Other

• Launching from outside Trap Console base directory fixed
• Deduplication info list pager functional

Trap Console 1.5 has been released, bringing the following improvements and enhanced features:

Support for SNMP over TCP

• Receiving, forwarding and sending traps also over TCP protocol is now supported
• Actions have options of TCP transport and converting between UDP and TCP
• UDP socket or TCP connection as the local interface can be selected for outgoing traps

Further SNMP related improvements

• Better handling of traps from 3rd party software that are not strictly implemented according to RFC documents
• Fixed SNMP v1 to SNMP v2 mapping
• Inform-requests are supported

Actions

• MIB macros for retrieving objects from MIB files for particular traps are added
• Log file size limit for particular actions can be set
• Log files on the Logs page can be sorted by actions
• Macros in 'Write trap to the log file' action's file name can be used, thus allowing to create a log file hierarchy, and consequently, to distribute logs in subdirectories
• Action macro for trap severity added

Rules
• Macros in Actions and Rules are unified, i.e. all macros can be used in both Actions and Rule Expressions
• Rule filter can now contain multiple trap/enterprise names
• Logging of restricted traps' addresses is added, log file size is settable and the record line format is customizable with macros
• Sorting rules by name and status is implemented

Trap Console 1.4e Rev.2 fix has been released, adding a parameter to stop the application from outside and solving the following minor discrepancies:

• deduplication of traps with the same time stamp
• inconsistency between the "HttpServerPort=" parameter in trapconsole.cfg and the console command line parameter "-p"

Trap Console 1.4c update is addressing vulnerabilities described by the CERT� Advisory CA-2002-03 Multiple Vulnerabilities in Many Implementations of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) published on February 12, 2002.

Besides that, the MIB compiler has been slightly improved to accept MIBs which are not 100% ASN.1 specification compliant, but industry-wide accepted. Now it ignores missing list separators and list separators used after the last item.

Note that there is no upgrade fee from 1.4(a/b) to 1.4c.
